Historically, Dade County pine was used in virtually the entire structure of the houses back then. The straight consistent grain, the density and strength made it an ideal building material. Large beams such as 4×6 and 6×6 were used as primary structural supports. Tongue and groove boards were used for roofing where today plywood is typical. Even the wall studs and plates were Dade County pine 2×4’s. The wood at that time was commonplace and cheap so hiding it beneath other materials was taken for granted. These days, the scarcity of this wood makes it more suitable for use in applications to display it’s beauty.
In the construction category, this wood can play a dual role as structural support and beauty when used as flooring. We have both reclaimed 2” Tongue and groove flooring and we can mill custom flooring in widths from 1 to 6-inch widths.
Additionally, Dade County pine can be milled to be used as moulding, trim, veneer, wainscot. If a design utilizing exposed beam construction is contemplated, we have large Beams including 2×6, 2×8, 4×4,4×6 and 6×6. These can be sold “as is” in their rough-cut condition or milled into “new” 100-year-old custom lumber.
